Master Gardener Deborah Liguori worked with Porter Township staff and volunteers to design and plant the pollinator garden, located in a meadow near a gently flowing steam that is bordered by native wildflowers. The garden contains plenty of native trees, shrubs, and perennials to support pollinating insects, which continue to be under threat from development, pesticides, and loss of food and habitat. The bee hotel provides a safe place for bees to nest in a variety of materials. Providing nesting areas is an important part of any pollinator garden.

Plans call for the pollinator garden to continue to expand with new plant purchases and donations from local residents. Located at the intersection of Route 64 and Washington Avenue, the park and pollinator garden are open to visitors who want to enjoy a very beautiful and sustainable place for pollinators and humans alike.
