Position Title: Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Date available: This position is available to start as soon as January 2018. The initial appointment is for one year, with annual renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Principal Duties: Enhance the APEX 1501 model to better simulate the fate and transport of pollutants, including sediments and chemical constituents,  in the Colorado River Basin (CRB) to identify critical sources and the pathways of saline terrestrial runoff, stream and groundwater flow and to evaluate related rangeland management scenarios. Integrate APEX-KINEROS modules-MODFLOW-PHT3D-AERO model. Make recommendations on best management practices (BMPs) for minimizing sediment and salt transport across rangelands that have potential to reach the Colorado River and its tributaries.

Qualifications: The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering, soil chemistry, hydrology, geology, water resources or environmental engineering. S/he should have research experience in quantitative modeling using spatially explicit data. Demonstrated ability to produce academic and policy-focused research papers. Strong oral communication skills and experience with collaborative research.

Preferred Experience: Hydrologic and water quality modeling using EPIC, APEX or SWAT. Experience in programming languages such as FORTRAN or Python. Model development for simulating hydrologic and water quality processes. Demonstrated ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
