Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This non-tenure track 12-month position will primarily support the undergraduate Biological Engineering
program in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas. The
successful candidate will teach selected undergraduate and graduate Biological Engineering courses, provide
support in recruiting, and teaching other undergraduate courses, serve as a liaison with the Freshman
Engineering Program, advise undergraduates and assist with processes for ABET accreditation of the
undergraduate program. The successful candidate's teaching, research, extension and/or industry experience
should complement and enhance the existing biological engineering academic programs, curriculum and
department strengths in sustainable water, energy and food systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach 6 to 7 undergraduate and/or graduate Biological Engineering courses per year
  • Advise undergraduate students
  • Assist with assigned biological engineering design courses
  • Develop new Biological Engineering courses and student learning experiences
  • Assist with class field-trips and maintenance of teaching labs
  • Facilitate undergraduate involvement in faculty research programs and/or internships
  • Serve as a liaison with the Freshman Engineering Program and the College of Engineering to support
    departmental recruiting efforts

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Background in Hydrology
  • Ability to work in inter‐ and trans‐disciplinary teams
  • Experience with computer software and modeling relevant to Biological Engineering academic programs
  • Demonstrated record of effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to enhance the existing teaching program
  • Willingness to recruit students for Biological Engineering and/or within the Freshman Engineering Program

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required – PhD in discipline such as biological, bio‐systems, agricultural, ecological, or environmental engineering or
closely related field

Preferred –BS degree from ABET or equivalent engineering program and experience in teaching, research, service,
extension and/or industry in the sustainable management of water, energy and food systems.

SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications
