  • Awarded 2011 Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Institution and Federal Laboratory Partnership Award.  (Considered to be a prestigious accomplishment, as this award was open to all Federal Laboratories that conduct research: NOAA, NASA, USGS, etc.)
  • Provides leadership as Director of the Penn State Odor Assessment Laboratory (2007- Present). Duties included: coordinate/supervise facilities utilization; obtaining human test subject approvals through the PSU Office of Research Protections; supervise recruitment, screening, and qualifying of  odor assessors, and authorize odor assessor compensation; performing retrospective screening of all odor panel results data; reporting results to sponsors; leading development of PSU Odor Lab web site with M. Hull; leading creation of Odor Lab video with PSU Penn State Department Public Information, and; solicitation of odor assessment  assignments (laboratory services) outside of current funded research projects.
  • Provides peer review/ feedback on internal ABE manuscripts and/or fact sheets, AND external manuscripts (refereed) proposed for publication in: the Journal of Environmental Quality; Transactions of the ASABE; Journal of Soil and Water Conservation and Journal of the Air and Waste Management Association (2003 – present).   
  • Provided input to the National Air Quality Task Force (via E. Wheeler) relative to national air quality research priorities in 2008.
  • Served as a volunteer participant in the COE Tablet PC Study (2006 and 2007) in which selected COE faculty members used this technology in courses and conference presentations.  All lectures, and laboratory presentations, in ASM 217 and ERM 300 were prepared/ presented using the Tablet PC, with follow-up ANGEL postings. 
  • Participated in the PSU Agriculture Odor Advisory Workgroup (2004-2006).
  • Participated in agenda development, speaker scheduling, and preparation/ organization for annual Odors and Regulated Air Emission in Pennsylvania Agriculture conferences in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  Negotiated agreement for obtaining compensation for PSU presentations in a fee-for-services arrangement.
  • Participated in the SERA-17 mule barn sub-committee tasked with development of a unified regional (mid-Atlantic) strategy for determination of phosphorus solubility coefficients for use in phosphorus indices (2007).
  • Prepared reprint/update and arranged for reproduction/delivery of several hundred hardcopies of Odor Management in Agriculture and Food Processing (Brandt, et al., 2004) for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Lancaster County Conservation District as a special request assignment.
